Today's engines run hotter, tighter, and harder than anything from a decade ago. Gasoline direct injection, turbocharging, and variable valve timing push oil temperatures well beyond what conventional formulations were designed to handle. Thinner 0W-20 viscosities are now the norm from the factory, and the oil needs to do more with less. A standard-spec oil will meet minimum requirements. Signature Series goes well beyond them.

75% MORE PROTECTION AGAINST WEAR
In the Sequence IVA Engine Test (ASTM D6891), which simulates extended stop-and-go driving over 100 hours of cycling between idle and elevated RPM, Signature Series 0W-20 recorded an average cam wear score of just 20.28 microns. The API SN PLUS specification allows up to 90 microns. That is 75% more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear than the industry standard requires. The formulation develops a strong fluid film that keeps metal surfaces separated under load, and robust anti-wear additives protect high-contact zones like cam lobes and piston rings during boundary lubrication conditions. In a separate 100,000-mile head-to-head test using Ford F-150 trucks with 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost engines, AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 kept bearings looking like new compared to a leading synthetic-blend 5W-30.

PREVENTS TURBO COKING IN DIRECT INJECTION ENGINES
Turbochargers operate at extreme temperatures, and the oil that circulates through the turbo bearing housing is exposed to severe heat soak cycles every time you shut the engine off. Over time, lower-quality oils oxidize and bake onto bearing surfaces, forming hard carbon deposits through a process called turbo coking. This gradually restricts oil flow and can lead to premature turbo failure. In the GM Turbo Coking Test, which subjects oil to 2,000 extreme heat-soak cycles, Signature Series limited the temperature increase within the turbocharger to just 3.6%. The GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification requires 13% or less. That is 72% better turbo protection than the standard demands. For turbocharged vehicles like the Ford Escape 1.5T, Chevy Equinox 1.5T, or Honda Civic Turbo, this level of thermal stability directly extends turbo life.

28% MORE ACID-NEUTRALIZING POWER THAN MOBIL 1
Combustion byproducts generate acids that attack bearings, seals, and internal engine surfaces. Total Base Number (TBN) measures an oil's capacity to neutralize those acids over time. In ASTM D2896 testing, AMSOIL Signature Series delivered 28% more acid-neutralizing power than Mobil 1 Annual Protection Full Synthetic. Signature Series carries a TBN of 12.5, giving it significant reserve alkalinity to stay effective deep into extended drain intervals. The formulation also includes 50% more detergent additives than AMSOIL OE Motor Oil, helping keep oil passages, piston ring lands, and valve train components free of performance-robbing deposits.

90% BETTER SLUDGE PROTECTION
Sludge is one of the most common causes of catastrophic engine failure, and it often starts at the oil pick-up tube screen. Once that screen becomes blocked, the engine is starved of oil. In the Sequence VG Engine Test (ASTM D6593), which subjects a Ford 4.6L engine to 216 hours of sludge-inducing conditions, Signature Series produced a pick-up tube screen virtually free of sludge. The industry standard allows 10% blockage before failure. Signature Series delivered 90% better protection against sludge than required by the API SN PLUS specification. For engines that see a lot of short trips, cold starts, or extended idle time, this is the kind of margin that prevents expensive problems.

RESISTS VISCOSITY BREAKDOWN UNDER EXTREME HEAT
Oil thickening under high temperatures robs horsepower, increases fuel consumption, and compromises circulation. In the Sequence IIIH Engine Test (ASTM D8111), run at oil temperatures of 304°F, Signature Series showed only a 0.1% viscosity increase after a standard-length 90-hour test. The allowable limit is 100%. AMSOIL then doubled the test length using the same oil, and the viscosity increase was still only 49.6%, well under the single-test threshold. That same doubled test also produced pistons that were 40% cleaner than the standard requires after just one pass. This thermal durability is directly relevant for vehicles operating in hot climates, towing situations, or stop-and-go traffic that keeps oil temperatures elevated.

100% LSPI PROTECTION
Low-speed pre-ignition is a destructive phenomenon in modern GDI and turbocharged engines where the fuel-air mixture ignites before the spark plug fires, generating extreme pressure spikes that can crack piston ring lands. AMSOIL Signature Series achieved zero LSPI events across five consecutive tests in the engine test required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification. AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-20 (ASM) meets or exceeds the following specifications: API SP (Resource Conserving), SN PLUS, SN; GM dexos1 Gen 3 (supersedes dexos1 Gen 2 and 6094M); ACEA A1/B1; Ford WSS-M2C947-B1, WSS-M2C947-A, WSS-M2C962-A1; Chrysler MS-6395; ILSAC GF-6A, GF-5, GF-4. It is compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils, though mixing will reduce the performance benefits and shorten drain intervals. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.

SERVICE LIFE
Normal service: up to 25,000 miles, 700 hours of operation, or one year, whichever comes first. Severe service (commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, frequent towing, hauling, plowing, or dusty conditions): up to 15,000 miles, 700 hours, or one year. Modified engines, racing vehicles, and vehicles using alternative fuels such as E85, CNG, or propane are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations. Do not exceed 12,000 miles or one year with non-AMSOIL oil filters unless longer intervals are recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
